What
is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a combat simulation game similar to paintball. It is
played in teams and comprises a number of scenarios with set objectives in order
to ‘win’ the game. Unlike paintball, Airsoft guns do not fire a ‘marker’
projectile, but instead a 6mm (or sometimes 8mm) plastic ball, referred to as a
‘BB’. Under these circumstances Airsoft relies heavily on honesty, as it is easy
to discount a ‘hit’ and continue playing. The Airsoft community does not
tolerate cheating, and those caught are usually given a fair warning before
being asked to leave the playing site in question, should they continue their
actions.
Airsoft guns come in many forms, the three most common types being AEG
(Automatic Electric Gun), Gas or GBB (Gas Blowback) or Spring operated weapons.
Each variety has its own characteristics and draw-backs, and the choice of which
to use is very much down to the preference of the individual. These guns are 1:1
scale replicas of the real thing and are manufactured of a variety of materials,
the most common being high impact ABS plastic, however metal body kits exist for
a large number of models.

Who are dEFCONAirsoft?
dEFCONAirsoft is a UK News, Reviews and Information website set
up in September 2006. We first started out many years ago, known as dEFCON4, but
sadly had to close down due to personal reasons. dEFCONAirsoft is primarily run
by me, 4dEFCON, but other members of our little squad contribute to content and
ideas.
Where does the name 'dEFCON' come from?
The word 'defcon' comes from the term used to describe the threat level in the
United States of America. The level Defcon 4 refers to 'normal, increased
intelligence and the heightening of national security measures'. Ground combat
is authorised.
What is your relationship with Fire-Support?
Whilst dEFCONAirsoft is a independent Airsoft News / Reviews
website, we would be unable to finance all of the equipment we review, it simply
isn't possible. Whilst some of the guns reviewed on this website will be owned
by myself or other team members, the majority of them have been kindly loaned to
us by Fire-Support for review.
Fire-Support are the 'official' sponsors of dEFCONAirsoft, we work closely with
them to provide readers of dEFCONAirsoft and the general Airsofting community
with special offers, competitions and excellent prices.
Can I advertise on dEFCONAirsoft?
Sure you can. There are several ways to do this. We have a
dedicated banner adverts system, which appears as a 1 in 5 rotation at the top
of every page on the website, contact us to discuss rates. Or you can
request we place a link on our links section, this is free. Indeed you can
also send us a news
submission telling us about yourselves and your products. All we ask in return,
is that you place a link to us, if you have the facility to do so on your
website. Don't worry if you haven't.
How do I submit a news article?
Your news is very important to us. We publish every news article
receive, no matter how small, and we aim to have these online within 24hrs of
them being received. Simply send your news article to us at
defconairsoft@googlemail.com
with the subject line of 'news submission'. We will reply to you once done, so
you know it has gone live.
I've written a review of my gun, will you publish it?
Whilst we carry out nearly all of the gun reviews ourselves, it's
a big job and a little help is always appreciated. If you wish to share your
thoughts with the rest of the Airsoft world over a particular purchase, we will
happily publish your review for you, giving you full credit. Things to bear in
mind are:
Check that a review of that model is not already on-line, Reviews should be
around 1500-1800 words, Include a couple of pictures if possible. If in doubt,
read some of ours to get an idea where to start.
Where is the best place to look for second hand Airsoft items?
Well, the first place to look are the forums. Either ours, Arnies
Airsoft, or Airsoft Community forums are all good places to search for second
hand items. E-Bay also sell certain Airsoft good such as gas, batteries,
face-masks and other accessories etc, but NOT Airsoft guns themselves. (ebay.com
permits the sale of Airsoft replicas within the United States)
