EVOLT: Tokyo Marui’s Radical New AEG Format
Tokyo Marui are introducing a brand-new AEG format called EVOLT. It combines a split gearbox, real-size pistol grips, a new fire-control PCB, a mechanical selector and redesigned magazines to make their electric guns more realistic, more serviceable and easier to customise.
What EVOLT is aiming to do: The future of electric airsoft guns?
Instead of just releasing another M4, TM are clearly saying: “this is how we want our future electric guns built.” That means:
split gearbox so techs can actually reach stuff,
realistic ergonomics so it feels like the real thing,
a smarter PCB for fire control, and
magazines that don’t dump BBs when you change them.
Split gearbox — the big mechanical change
A split gearbox makes servicing faster. You don’t have to fight a giant one-piece shell that springs apart when you prise it open. Instead, EVOLT separates the parts so the upper/receiver can lift and the key internals stay accessible.
Redesigned magazines
The mag shot TM showed makes it obvious they want to stop BB spills and make feeding more reliable. It’s a shutter / guided feed approach — a small but hugely useful change.
Real-size pistol grips for proper handling
TM have moved away from compromised, undersized AEG grips to a full-size, real-feel grip. That gives the EVOLT a more authentic feel and much better control in-game.
New fire-control PCB with a mechanical selector
One of the cooler EVOLT touches is that TM didn’t ditch the mechanical selector. Instead, they added a modern PCB behind it — so you still get the tactile click, but the system can handle more advanced firing logic.

We’ve also been given a nice motor detail shot — TM don’t photograph that for no reason. That usually means the drive has been tuned to work with the new electronics and mag system.
Battery and power layout
Another of the images shows the EVOLT-branded 7.4V MS Li-Po — TM are clearly pairing the format with a battery shape that actually fits the gun.
Internals laid out for techs
Here is the “look, it comes apart cleanly” shot. They sell the idea that EVOLT is easier to maintain than older TM AEGs.
EVOLT Type II M-System – Magnetic Fire-Control
The M-SYSTEM TYPE 2 is Tokyo Marui’s next-generation electronic fire-control board designed for the EVOLT platform. It uses a network of integrated sensors to monitor the gearbox, motor load, selector position, and firing cycle in real time. This allows the system to deliver smoother, faster, and more consistent trigger response while also providing built-in protection features such as jam detection, over-current shutdown, and automatic stoppage when a malfunction is detected.
By replacing traditional mechanical switches with solid-state sensing (believed to include magnetic or Hall-effect elements), the M-SYSTEM TYPE 2 reduces wear, increases reliability, and enables advanced fire-mode control, forming the core of EVOLT’s modern, electronically-managed performance. It’s Marui, so you just know it’s gonna be awesome!

Why EVOLT Could Change the Game
Let’s be honest — Tokyo Marui don’t throw the word “new” around lightly. When they introduce a completely new AEG format, it’s because they’ve spent years refining the tech behind it. The EVOLT system is the first real evolution of their gearbox design in decades, and it shows that TM are thinking about the future of electric guns rather than just small upgrades.
The split gearbox design will make life a lot easier for techs and players who love to tweak and tune their guns. Anyone who’s ever stripped a traditional V2 or V3 knows how fiddly they can be — springs flying, tiny screws everywhere. EVOLT’s layout fixes that. It’s cleaner, more modular and clearly designed for serviceability. That alone will save hours of bench time.
Then there’s the electronics. The new fire-control PCB looks like TM’s answer to modern ETUs, but without the reliability worries that come with some aftermarket boards. Combined with a proper mechanical selector and realistic pistol grip, it feels like the sweet spot between innovation and the solid build quality that Marui are famous for. You get better trigger response and smart features, but still with that “plug in and go” confidence.
How It Stacks Up Against the Competition
The AEG market’s been hot lately with systems like the Gate ASTER, G&G’s G2 gearboxes, and KRYTAC’s refinements — but TM have always played a different game. Their focus has never been raw power; it’s consistency, reliability and precision. EVOLT seems built on those same principles. It’s not chasing FPS numbers — it’s about giving you a gun that performs flawlessly shot after shot, right out of the box, for years.
We’d bet this new system will set the bar for the next wave of Marui releases — and you can be sure other brands will be taking notes. If the EVOLT proves as solid as it looks, it could easily become the new “standard” AEG architecture everyone else starts copying.
Why It’s Bound to Be a Hit
Tokyo Marui’s reputation alone will make this system one to watch. Every time they innovate, it ripples through the airsoft world. From the original AEG which they invented and everyone else copied to the recoil shock rifles, TM have a habit of quietly rewriting the rulebook — and the EVOLT looks like another one of those moments.
The early feedback from the Tokyo Marui Festival has been buzzing. Players are calling it the first “properly modern” TM AEG in years, and it feels like the brand is stepping confidently into 2026 with something that’s genuinely new. Add in the trademark Marui build quality and accuracy, and it’s hard to see this being anything other than a massive success.
If this is the direction they’re taking their future lineup — count us in. The EVOLT isn’t just a new gun; it’s TM reminding everyone why they’ve led the pack for so long.
OK, enough teasing… when can I get one???
The EVOLT M4A1 Carbine is planned to be released in Japan ‘this winter’ although at the time of writing this (Nov 25) that doesnt leave us much longer so expect early Feb 2026 to get them in the UK.
The EVOLT RS FPR MK4 (with recoil shock system) is scheduled to be released in Spring, but Tokyo Marui’s production schedule is often delayed, we would expect early Summer 2026 but this wil give you plenty of time to save those pennies. Our sources indicate this is not going to be cheap – think approximately double the price of a standard NGRS…. 😮
