Airsoft Guns and Safety

Airsoft guns are great fun as a hobby and sport. They have a sense of realism and power that are sought after by the enthusiast. Just as important as getting the right guns and accessories is making sure you are protected. Most airsoft guns have a projectile velocity of over 300 feet per second and many can push 400 feet per second. That is between 200 and over 270 miles per hour. Small as a pellet or BB may be, they can and will inflict pain and damage when not protected.

Whenever using guns the first thing to make sure you have is eye protection. There are a variety of different facemasks and goggles that afford maximum protection against pellets and BBs. Combination facemasks and goggles are ideal in addition to some sort of head gear or protection.
Pellets fired from these guns can sting a little but are generally nothing more than a bit uncomfortable. Most players find their fatigue clothing more than adequate protection. Tactical vests can offer a little added padding as well as storage pockets.

The key to safety when using replica guns is to treat it like a real weapon. Become familiar with your guns and how to maintain them. Get the feel of the trigger. Is it touchy or stiff? Knowing your gun is an important part of making them safe. If you’re a novice it might not be a bad idea to get some training on how to use your gun.

Player and shooter safety is an important part of having fun with your guns.
