UK Airsoft Skirmish Sites

dEFCONAirsoft Playing Sites Section

Airsoft is a great hobby, and finding a good site to play at can be tough, there certainly is plenty of choice, but not any old field is good enough.

As players of Airsoft, we understand what you look for in a site, but we’ve gone one better. Quite secretly we’ve attended (and continue to attend) skirmish sites across the UK, looking for the golden seven for our seal of approval. This isn’t so much about the type of play available (as everyone has different preferences) but all about the several pointers we feel are as most important.
They are:

  • Safety of gameplay, including clear defined emergency procedures and condition of the site
  • Good parking facilities, which don’t wreck your car enroute
  • Adequate ablutions (That’s toilets with a sink / gel to clean your hands)
  • Good administration, including ability to buy bb’s and other consumables, to have a gun repaired if broken etc.
  • Good marshaling (Which is reflected in player’s discipline)
  • Safe area provision
  • Site presentation and game play structure

If a site isn’t listed, it doesn’t necessarily mean we disapprove it! It may mean we haven’t played there yet, or haven’t spoken to the event organisers to arrange to posting of their link!

Finmere Airsoft

Finmere Airsoft is situated next to Finmere airfield, just off the A421 near Buckingham, directions and a location map can be found on the website. It has been rated as one of the friendliest and welcoming airsoft sites in the UK with a large number of regulars. The friendly ethos of the site is thanks to Matt (Tiptoe), head marshal and site organiser, and all round top bloke commonly known as Tippy. If you’re new to airsoft, then Finmere is the place for you!

AEG’s must be under 350fps, and bolt action snipers must be under 500fps, both with .2g bb’s. Snipers also must not shoot anyone under 30m away. We often do spot checks on guns to ensure safety levels are kept, but if you suspect one of your guns is ‘hot’ after just upgrading it for instance, don’t worry about asking us to chrono it for you, if you’re over the limit we won’t come down on you like a ton of bricks, you just won’t be able to use the gun, if its your only gun, then we may be able to sort something out so you can play.

Game days are listed in the calendar, along with a ‘Role Call’ thread on the forum.
Normally games are played on the first Sunday of every month, with another game day normally two weeks later, although this can vary to accommodate more players.

There is no need to book, just come along in the morning and pay the green fees of £20. This also includes lunch which is normally a hot dog, and as much tea or coffee as you can drink (but we’d rather you didn’t drink enough to be bouncing off the trees!). If you need to hire a gun, please send a PM to Xaccers as he will deal with this, its £20 which includes eye protection and 3000 bbs.

Away from the airsoft field, Faulty regularly organises a bring and braai (South African BBQ where you bring food/drink to share) for everyone, and we also arrange trips to other airsoft sites, and even to weekenders.

Our pennies worth:
An excellent site by our standards. The coral safe area is superb, and is quite atmospheric under the canopy of the trees. Should it rain, there is sufficient space to get under cover. Each bench has it’s own bin, which is great for conservancy. In the coral, there is a brilliant mini cookhouse with hot food being cooked up for players (Burgers, Baps, Hot dogs and the such), the smell is so inviting and adds to the homely feel of this place. Drinks and other snacks are also for sale. Tea and Coffee is free on site. BB’s and Pyro are also available, as is rental facilities for new players. WC facilites are provided by Portaloo’s which were clean at the time of our visit. The staff are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. The entire site is clean, which immerses you into the game well. Only site approved biodegradable BB’s are allowed, which is a great idea for this site (The site is not littered with white balls). Gameplay is set in woodland and along trackways, there are props such as a downed Wessex helicopter and armored vehicles parked up / blown up. A mini village of small structures and crates are also located on site. The game plans are well thought out, yet simple enough so that you can remember the objective. Because of good marshaling, all players bond well on both team sides. The future of this site looks to be good, with plans to expand and develop as time passes.

Our pennies worth:
If you like large game areas, and superbly well planned game plans, DV (Dragon Valley) is for you. With great story-lines which flow seamlessly between games, and continuity throughout, this site is nothing short of a marvel. Based on MoD property at a old cordite factory, this is a live military training area. The DV organisers have their own area set aside for admin, and all this is contained in their safe area. There’s ample room to prepare kit, and strip weapons etc. Hot food and refreshments are available. Tea and Coffee is free of charge. BB’s and Pyro is available and for sale on site. The staff are very helpful with repairs of guns, and should you require it, you can hire one of their extensive stock. The game area is a mix between FIBUA and open undulating ground with roadways. Each game plan reflects the terrain and facilities well. Dragon Valley has the highest marshal to player ratio than any other site in the UK which means that marshals are always available if required. This is a well disciplined site with a good functioning system for fair play. Play is held on alternate Sunday’s, and are always well attended with large numbers at each game day. Dragon Valley is a well established site, and is tremendous fun with a good balance of all that is required for the game.

Bristol Airsoft AKA ‘The Courthouse’ : Bristol
Tel: 07776288826

Our pennies worth:
A VERY unique site. Situated in an old courthouse, complete with courts, cells, and all the facilities one would find in the Crown Prosecution Services lair… A grade 2 listed building, it is steeped in history, and as you cautiously move around the site, trying not to get shot, you get the feeling for the emotion of the property, which makes the game altogether more atmospheric! The games are simple to understand, and thought and consideration has gone into ensuring matters aren’t over complicated. Facilities include food on site, as well as WC and team prep rooms. The site can be booked for a small fee, making it ideal for team practice. There is a lot of work going on to expand this site more, and the forthcoming months will see a lot of changes. If you crave CQB, this is well worth the drive! 😉
